What is the term for the phenomenon in which minority children indicate preferences for majority values or people?

This is known as race dissonance.
Nowadays, race dissonance is more present than ever - people (usually white people) are so afraid of offending people of other races, minorities, etc. that they give them all benefits and keep none for themselves. Thus, minorities dictate the rules for the major group in a country.

If you'd ask me the tones of writing then I would say it depends. Tones of writing are very different when it comes to very different stories. Stories come in various moods. Tone, in a piece of literature, decides how the readers read a literary piece, and how they should feel while they are reading it. It stimulates the readers to read a piece of literature as a serious, comical, spectacular, or distressing manner.
