A watershed is usually defined as a particular land area over which rainfall occurs and these rain waters then flow and add to the water bodies such as streams and rivers. In nature, these watersheds are sometimes connected to other watersheds, thereby forms a network of river channels, that eventually flows and drains off into a bigger water body such as seas and oceans. They are also known as the drainage basin or the catchment area.
The watershed is directly related to the drought and heat. Heat is the prime factor that is responsible for the increasing and decreasing temperature of the atmosphere. It forms a low-pressure zone when there is relatively higher temperature, thereby occurs rainfall in that particular area. Excess amount of heat supply from the sun can lead to the total evaporation of surface water and absence of rainfall, as a result of which drought can occur in that place.
Drought refers to that catastrophic situation when there occurs an absence of rainfall for a long period of time. Due to this extreme condition, all the water present on the surface of that area are completely evaporated. Soil fertility also is affected.
Thus, extensive increase in the atmospheric temperature can lead to the occurrence of drought, as a result of which the watershed is also affected significantly drying up the river channel.
