Lavoiser's precision in the importance of the weighing process, the conservation law of the masses, and the term oxygen made Lavoisier transform the field of Chemistry in the late 1700’s
Further explanationAntoine Laurent Lavoisier is a great scientist born in France
He compiled the first system of naming chemicals by using the basis of the modern periodic system
He also stated about the term oxygen and stated that the combustion process involved two components, namely oxygen and substances that were burned. And he also showed that air consists of nitrogen and oxygen
His biggest discovery is about the law of conservation of mass.
He experimented by reacting mercury and oxygen in a closed space to produce mercury oxide
And when heated, this mercury oxide will again produce the same amount of mercury and oxygen in the initial conditions
From here, he finally put forward the conservation law of the masses, namely:
In a closed system, the total mass of the substance before the reaction will be equal to the total mass of the reaction product.
In general, the reaction takes place in the open air. If the reaction results in the form of gas as in combustion, the mass of the reaction results will be smaller than the original mass. Or if the reaction binds to a larger than the environment then the reaction results will produce a mass greater than the original mass.
For example, in a paper combustion reaction the mass of combustion ash is smaller than the mass of paper that is burned because there is a gas released into the air
Lavoiser's precision in the importance of the weighing process in chemical reactions causes an important basis in the calculation of chemistry for the progress of research in the future
Lavoiser's discovery of oxygen in the air was also a theory which in his time could not be fully accepted by his colleagues.
Modern periodic systems and lists of chemical elements are also based on naming elements with their names
So naturally Lavoiser was called the founder of Modern Chemistry
