In his speech, Douglass talked about the bigotry of celebrating 4th July as the day of Independence when the evil practice of slavery still subsisting that robs people of their liberty, rights, and dignity. He states that those slaved people possess the productive skills and ability that will nurture the growth and development of the society equally as the others do.
